Furious M Should Be Covering Pro Golf
Now, only taking Engineering classes may have decreased my ability to communicate, which makes it hard to... write... good... say... things... but even I can spot lame golf tournament coverage. The advent of news on the Internet allows access to all the Masters golf tournament articles I could ever possibly read, and unfortunately some of them are lame or excessively negative.
I was fairly impressed with espn.com's coverage of the March Madness basketball tournament so they have been my first stop for Internet sports news since then. Frankly, I was disappointed with their first round coverage of the Masters. The featured article after day one, or at least the most prominently displayed article, was a systematic shit-talking about every famous golfer in the tournament except Tiger Woods.
The author went on for the entire article with his barbs directed at most of the famous golfers in the tourney, all the while repeating that Tiger is unbeatable and that everybody else is terrified of him (even though Tiger is off the lead too right now). All right, some well known golfers didn't do so hot in the first round; that's understandable from how tough the course is this year and is definitely worth mentioning in the day one recap. But what about the guys who played well? I want to hear about them, not just a stream of insults directed at the best players. Some of these guys are probably struggling anyway, since pobody's nerfect, and what good does it do to make fun of them? I know I'd be pissed if I was a pro golfer, shot over par in a SINGLE ROUND, and the sports writers wrote, “Mike Logsdon? He doesn't have what it takes, he chokes under pressure, and will never be as good as Tiger Woods.” What? It's one round of golf. Quit going down on Tiger Woods and write about the golf that was actually played. Build your shrine to Tiger after he wins the tournament, not after one day of mediocre golf. (Also, I realize that I'm being negative to express disapproval of negativity, so don't bother pointing that out.)
